The photo on the left is the one I took before the first cycle. The one on the right is the one I took after. You can see that they have shrunk a bit, but there's no felting in sight yet... still nervous here.

The only thing I can think of is that the yarn you are using might felt better if you were knitting stockinette and on bigger needles. I always noticed that garter doesn't felt as much or as nicely.
YAY!!! Thanks so much Jo!!! The actual project will be knitted stockinette. I used 6.5 mm needles for this, but I can go a bit larger if need be. I want to use my Denise's for this, so I'll have to pull out my knitting gauge to see what a 7.0 mm will be.
